Sample size calculator
Choose the formula your supervisor expects, enter your population and margin of error, and copy the sample size, the paragraph that reports the calculation and the reference for your methodology chapter.
Sample size
330respondents
300 from the formula, plus the non-response allowance.
For your methodology chapter
The sample size was determined using Yamane's (1967) formula, n = N / (1 + N(e)²), where n is the sample size, N is the population size and e is the margin of error. With a population of 1,200 and a margin of error of 5% (0.05), n = 1,200 / (1 + 1,200(0.05)²) = 300.00, rounded up to 300 respondents. To allow for non-response, the sample was increased by 10%, giving a final sample of 330 respondents.
